fretless epoxy??

i am starting to become a fretless junkie... i want to put some sort of epoxy finish on one of my fretless necks, something similiar to a pedulla fretless. anyone have any suggestions on how i can do it myself? what materials i would need and how to do it? or anyone know of someone i can send it to to be done?

if there is a thread about this already please let me know. i couldn't find one.

I am planning to get my fretless epoxied but luckily I have a friend that owns a marina and has a repair shop with a top notch fiberglass repairman who is also a guitarist. He is going to do the expoxy work on mine .

I second using MirrorCoat by System3 - it really holds well, even with regular use of roundwounds

what I find to be the most challenging part of this job is to accurately level the new finish on the fingerboard. to get this right, you need to accurately level the fingerboard prior to applying any epoxy. if your original fingerboard is wavy and/or lumpy you'll get a less than stellar finished result. by wavy/lumpy I mean that it must be totally level ... anything .005" or more out of level will require additional leveling prior to applying the epoxy. a StewMac extruded alum radius block really works wonders for this part of the job

when leveling epoxy I make sure that the epoxy is leveled to within .001" at the loosest.

I find the epoxy levels itself out. Giving you a close to flat radius then after several coats you have to re-create the radius in the epoxy......t

thank you everyone for your posts and pm's. i think i am going to look into having someone do it for me instead of trying it myself. i think all the talk of making sure the fretboard is level is scaring me away from attempting it myself.

if you know anyone willing to do it let me know! the fretless i want to do it to is an unlined fretless.

I took the frets out of mine and filled the slots in with elmers wood filler, but I sent the neck to Link Removed
to have and epoxy job done. It is great!
