Fretless G&l L2000 1982

I have a fretless L2000 bass, SN B 009066, making it a 1982 model.
Personally, I have never seen such an old fretless L2000.
Does anybody know ,when the fretless production begun for G&L?

No clue if blanks were available from Day 1. You might want to google GGJaguar on that one, that info might be in his G&L book.

I know for sure that the fretted L-2000 and L-1000 were introduced in '80. The 2000 being passive only, quickly discontinued, then followed later by the active L-2000 series-e.

The original passive L-2000 is uber rare. Never seen a used one for sale anywhere. I'm beginning to think I'm one of a small handful who remember actually seeing them in 1980.

We were a very early G&L dealer, and our original paperwork included listing an L-1000e as well as the L-2000 without the "e". Our opening order included a passive L-2000 that never shipped. Original options were maple or ebony boards, ash or mahogany bodies.

I don't think they ever actually DID make passive 2000s nor active 1K either, and they disappeared very quickly from dealer literature.

They definitely did make the passive 2K. I could have bought one for dealer cost which was $300 (MSRP $600). Instead, I bought two L-1000's, a trans red/ash/ebony and a trans blue/ash/ebony. MSRP $500 w/tolex, my cost was $250 @ plus Illinois sales tax and a small freight charge.

The dealer was the Music Crib in Oak Lawn, IL, proprieter Gus Kukowsky. As I understand it, he was one of the first dealers.

As I recall, the 2K I looked at was ash/maple in natural finish. I think he may have had two of them. Never cared for natural finishes, and sound-wise, I didn't think the second pup was worth an extra $50 so I passed.

After he sold the L-2000(s), they were no longer available. There was a lag time before the highly anticipated active L-2000 series-e was released.

I don't recall anything about an L-1000-e, but nothing would surprise me.

I'm not at all saying that couldn't have happened;
but I'd love to see photos of one.

I took the preamp out of my 1981 L2000eFL, and set it up as I think the L2000 passive would have been.
pickup selector, and an L1000 coil tap for each pickup.
Would he remember if that's how they were, or have any photos?

Doubt he has any pics or he would have shown them to me today. I'll ask about the switch array next time. I did ask about an L1000-e, didn't ring any bells with him.

As for a pic of the original 2K, I think one may have been pictured in an early G&L product brochure. I seem to remember seeing a pic of that brochure over at BABP? Again, this might be something to ask GGJaguar about.
