Hey all,
I am looking to purchase a fretless bass. I am looking for a 5-stringer, 34" scale, with 17mm string spacing (same as my fretted Flea 5), and a less chunky neck. I would also prefer passive electronics, rather than active.
The only fretless I've had an opportunity to play was the Fender CS Jaco bass. Really awesome, but: a) way out of my price range, and of course, b) it's a 4, not a 5er.
My budget is around $1500. I've looked at the Carvin website, and a fretless SB5000 looks nice, but the string spacing is wider than I want. I can't find much info on fretless fivers on the Fender website, so not sure what the specs on their fivers are.
Can anyone recommend some makes/models to look at? I know the ultimate answer is to play as many types as I can, but right now, I'm not even sure what my options are.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions and words of wisdom.
PS - advantages/disadvantages of ebony versus rosewood boards?
