Fretless Ric?

Never had a chance to play or even hear one of these?

How's the 4003FL?

I'd like my next bass to be a fretless and since my current bass is a 4003 I think it would be an easy transition to a 4003fl, or as easy as it's going to be for going from fretted to fretless.

On summary, How's the sound of a fretless ric?

Only tried a fretted Ric once, and had the SWEETEST mhwwaa i ever hear. So probably a fretless would sound great. Plus looks exelent!

I used to own one, and it was a VERY nice fretless. If you get one, you won't be sorry.

The first rick I played was Fretless, I fell in love. Hard. It had flatwounds so that the high end was rolled off and there was more thump and punch to it. I would have bought it then but it was over $1000, well over what I had to spend that day.

I played one a few years ago. It had nylon tapewound strings on it (they used to come that way from the factory, but I think nowadays they come with rounds like the fretted basses) and it sounded quite nice and played beautifully.

you can hear it on either of the Triple Play CDs. I'd recommend the "Live" CD.

He has it strung with Rotosound Tru Bass, nylon wrapped strings and replaced the bridge pup with some kind of jazz.

--- and only one thing sounds like a DB, everything else sounds like something else trying to sound like a DB -- which ain't necessarily bad. The Ric does a respectable job.

The dots are not right where the fret would be which to me is idiotic. I have no idea what Ric was thinkin'.

It sounded nice and very well made but for pete's sake - put the dots on the fretlines!

They used to put the side-dots on the neck where the fretlines were and only recently placed them in the middle of the notes instead. I don't understand why they did this, because it makes absolutely no sense for a fretless player . . . I mean, obviously, if you're good enough, dots don't mean jack, but for the rest of us . . . apparently they sound absolutely amazing though. I believe it.
