Frets settling in after shipment.

This is the second bass I've had shipped to me that had a high fret that I couldn't tap or press down, but that settled in and fixed itself after lying around the house for a few months. Anyone else experience this?

I think some frets have some Finish(Poly?) on them that wears off as you break in the bass. I also believe that string wear will eventually "level" out the finger board over time.

For the time being, I'm wildly guessing that varying humidity and temperature do something while the bass is in transit, and it works itself out over time.

I think you may have been mistaking a high fret, for a neck that was out of adjustment. I have never seen a high fret correct itself.

Yeah, just read somewhere that someone else had fret sprouting problems after shipment that resolved itself. Must be somewhat common.

Fret sprout isn't the same thing as a lifting fret.

Well if fret sprout is sideways, I don't see how it can resolve itself.

Fret sprout is 'sideways', or longer fret length due to (usually) dryer air shrinking the fingerboard. More humidity will swell the fretboard back out, and the frets will seem as they prev were.
A lifting (higher) fret would be due to the tangs or glue not holding. Once that fails, it doesn't correct itself.
