Fretted basses with flats?

Hey everyone, lately Ive been thinking of going for one of those MIJ jazz reissues. I recently purchased a G&L tribute L2000 and I love it but Im really jonesing for a real jazz. I figured I would slap a BAII on which I already have and maybe some flats. What Im wondering is, since I dont have much experience with flats on fretted basses, does anyone know what kind of sound I would get out of a pretty much stock jazz with with flats on it? If anything Ill be getting some TI jazz flats ( I love those things). Any experience with these strings on a fretted jazz? Im hoping it will give me a little extra thump. In any case I will be getting a jazz in the near future and I should have enough by Christmas. . Like I said, I love my L2000 but Im looking for something with a little more vintage vibe and I just love the feel of flatwounds.

Thump, yes. Warmer sound, more mellow. I don't have much experience with jazzes+flats, I only use precisions+flats. I'd like to hear how it sounds.

+1 on the flats. I use them on my Marcus Miller. Very warm and smooth. Ive gotten to the point that flats are all I want to play.

I have a set of TI flats on my fretted StingRay 5............best thing I ever did to my baby. In my opinion TI flats are the BEST flats you can own and they last forever. Two places to get good prices on TIs are www.bassemporium.com or from www.carolkaye.com (in her catalog).

I have TI Flats on my RI 62 Jazz. I can't imagine, now, having strung it with anything else. So warm, so thumpy, so traditional, but I can still crank it back to just the bridge pickup and get some serious snarl.

Got TIs on all my Stingrays and most of my Bongos, too.

You won't be sorry. It's a whole new world, only it's a lot like the old world!

TI's are great for people who want a flat feel and a roundwound sound. They have a very pronounced midrange and take forever to mellow out. People either love them or hate them, and there is no middle ground. I'm one who hates them.

Got em on my 5(MIA passive Fender J). Like them but may go nickel round next time.
Edit: I guess I disagree somewhat w/ya there, JimmyM- I lean a tad bit more towards love, but I can take them or leave them.

I just put TI Flats on my Lakland 55-01. Not exactly a Jazz bass but maybe my sound sample will give you an idea of what you can expect: TI Flats on a Fretted Lakland

I absolutely love the sound and playability of the TI flats. It's pulling me away from my coveted Warwick!!!

I had a set of Fender Nylon Filament Roundwounds for my J. Very smooth and sexy tone. These are basically groundwounds but they feel really smooth and flat.

I highly enjoyed flats on my fretted Corevette Standard (bubinga body, weng neck and fb, brass frets and nut) because it was so damn punchy!

I had lots of fun with that bass and flats.
