I have a squire fretless J (has duncan-design pu's which are decent.) I will soon put DR roundwound highbeams on it once the original strings are dead. I'd like some pu's with more clarity, any recommendations?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I'm considering dropping in some EMG's partly 'cause they're active and come with pre-wired pots and output jack. Some consider the sound too "sterile" but I don't mind them. Maybe some Bartoilini's without the pre amp? Guess it just depends on what kind of sound you're going for.

Yes, EMG's would produce a very bright sound, perhaps a little too hi-fi for some people! Bartolini's can produce an amazing tone, don't overlook them!
