Double Bass Frog doesn't slide very well

on my daughter's new 1/2 size violin bow. I suppose options include unscrewing the eyelet by 1/2 turn or lubricating it in some way. Tips?

This is very common with just about any bow. What happens is grime from handling and rosin foul up the mating surfaces between the frog and the stick. It can easily be remedied by removing the frog and cleaning the mating surfaces and applying regular powdered soap. This should get things going again. It is not a good idea to readjust the eyelet if at all possible. What happens is you create too much play between the frog and stick and the sharp edges of the frog will wear grooves into the stick.

Be careful not to get any lubricant on the hair, especially if you are using grease.

Just rub the touching surfaces with a regular pencil. The graphite is slippery and won't affect the wood or hair.

It is also useful to rub some on the screw part and apply a bit on the bridge and nut grooves for smooth tuning.

Also, put some where the screw knob touches the end of the stick. It will turn smoothly and easily.
