From SVT-CL and 810 to PRO 7 + 410

I'm heavily considering switching from my current setup SVT-CL and 810 stack, i love it, but it's just to much of a hassle. I care about tone, but i'm not a toneophile (or what you would call it) like many others, so it won't hurt that the standard is lowered a bit (not ideal, but a broken back is not ideal too ;) )

I have been considering the SVT-7 PRO along with a SVT-410E, but theres many choices (fx. 410HLF or SVT PRO 2-3-4-8), and i would love if anyone had some recommendation, or could tell me if this is the right choice, if i love the tone of the SVT-CL and 810, but need something 'easier'.

Another question; What will i loose making this compromise? Will a 410 be loud enough for monitor on stage with a rock band (I ussually mike it up with an RE20 anyway)? Will i miss the 810's ability to move air? Will i miss the tone, and in what ways, do i loose bottom, high or both? such questions..

I use an SVT 3-Pro with an SVT-410HE for most of my gigs and I have no problems with stage volume with it. Even if things get exceptionally loud, I've always had a lot to work with as far as power and sound goes.

From what I understand, the SVT-410HE is basically half of the SVT 810. Same construction and materials, same speakers, etc. I've never gigged with the SVT 810E so I can't tell you what you'd miss, but I'm going to assume the 410 carries over all the same attributes, at 50%. The 810 would just be twice the awesomeness.

I can't give you any first-hand experience with an SVT-7, I've only read the horror stories about them here. Of course what you'll read here doesn't stop pro touring acts from relying on them. I was watching some youtube videos the other day and I noticed this one, where Roger Waters took them on The Wall tour:



Evidently, some major touring acts are using the exact setup you're thinking about and they aren't having the kind of problems that you might read about here. It's interesting that they'll use a bunch of 4x10 instead of 8x10. I'm sure that moving them around is easier.

I switched from SVT CL 8x10 to a 7pro and 4x10. And I never looked backed. Allot less "back" for a completely suitable boom! I don't miss carrying all that extra weight one bit! And my tone or volume has never been compromised

I slightly like the 7 Pro better than the PF800 and 500. It seems to be a little bit warmer on the bottom, and even though it's got only one tube, it makes a bit of a positive difference. I can get my favorite sounds out of either of them, though, and in the few months that it's been out, I've yet to see a single complaint about the PF800.

I'm leaning towards the 7 Pro, and there's also a used for sale (only buy new when really needed), and i have also found some cabs, but i don't know if i want to wait for others to come around, or just buy some new, maybe you guys had some opinions on these too.
I found (i don't know if info is to sparse) Gallien Krueger Neo 410, EBS Neoline 2x12, or an 2x15" Fender kabinet from the M80 line (300W 4 Ohm modded with EV SRO units [Invalid or Expired Link Removed])

About the horror stories: i took the time to read a few reviews, and they are kind of scaring me away because of all the malfunctions. One of the plus sides of moving away from tube amps are the low maintainance, and in some cases more reliability, but i'm kinda getting cold feet with the Pro 7 having read the reviews..

Because nothing screams "Ampeg" like a green boy designed cab!
It is almost every thread you are posting "green boy" is the best. Either you are gunning for an endorsement deal or you just do not really read opening posts.

RE: the bad reviews

I just bought a 7-Pro but understand and share your reservations. However, it does seem that the vast majority of the problems were happening when the amp was new to market. Ampeg had the amp through a couple of revisions (the amp should now have a REV C00 identifier on top of them) which seem to have a MUCH better track record.

I took the plunge and will be trying mine for the first time at a show tomorrow night. Love the tone I am getting so far.

I have the 7pro with the svt 410 he And used to have the 810e I think you'll love it. Just remember that the 7pro is rated at 1000 watts And the 410 he is rated at 500 watts !! So wach you volume ! Otherwise it's great !!!
