From XLR to 1/4" to 1/8"...?

i'm looking to make some basic recordings of my bass...
the only thing is, my soundcard only has a 1/8" mic input, so how should i connect the XLR DI out of my amp or Sansamp BDDI to my soundcard?

do i just use those adapters that change XLR to 1/8" or something? more importantly, how can i do so without losing sound quality?

i should add that i don't really want to spend money on a USB/Firewire interface...

I do exactly the same thing, here's how:
from my mxr m-80, i have an xlr to quarter inch that i plug into a 1/4-1/8 adapter.

or u can use this thing i just found on musiciansfriend that kind of combines all of that and i wish i had found it earlier. i would connect it to the computer with a headphone extension.
