Hello, last week I ordered a mighty jazz dark evolution 5 string (black) but there was nothing left at fgn germany. The dealer told me to wait a few months because
FGN will bring a third model of the mighty jazz on the market - maybe in May. Can anyone of you confirm this statement?

Hoping my acquisition of the FGN Mighty Power, photo attached, allows me to become a member of the FGN Club. Great bass in many ways! Feeling fortunate to find an early version...in gun metal grey with rosewood fret. Still had the plastic on the pick guard and came with the FGN gig bag.

I really like mine. The only issue is that the electronics don't seem to be well shielded - I haven't removed the PG to look. So it picks up some electrical noise if the pickups aren't balanced. But no worse than any other J-bass.
It all depends how noisy the source is: at home I only notice when within about 1' of my computer, but at my regular jam I really notice it in certain places under the light fixtures. See LowEndLobster's YT review, and their followup video.

A FGN Expert Mighty Jazz is probably the only bass I'm really GAS'ing for at the moment. And you guys aren't making it any easier.

I like the Mighty Power so much, I invested in the JMJ 2 DE also, crossing the pond as we speak. I have two incredible Fender Jazz basses with mojo, so not investing in an Expert.

I would love to get my hands on a Mighty Power but I believe it has been discontinued for many years now?

Yes, Mighty Power no longer produced. Just today, I received a used but MINT FGN JMJ Standard 5 with Bartolini's professionally installed, sale included the original Seymour Duncans. The Barts are fantastic.

I have a MJ Boundary and I wouldn't swap it for my friend's Fender Player. It's a solid instrument.

It's currently on the FGN Japan site, but not the US one.

How does an FGN Jazz compare to a US Fender?

It's a good question. FGN supplied some of the MIJ Fender basses years ago, and their quality seems pretty solid. But I can say having the ability to hold the bass in person makes a huge difference, and unfortunately, you can't get that in the US with FGN basses. Compared to MIA Fenders, I thought the neck was better on the FGN but not better than a Geddy MIA Jazz.

I think the FGN basses compare similar to a USA Fender, only FGN's have better necks. I have three FGN's presently, and five Fenders. The neck build, feel and playability is amazing on the FGN's. I would put the FGN's up there with my 2023 Fender Ultra Precision in build and sound quality.

I have three FGN-made Fenders and have been playing them since 1987. I bought my FGN several years ago because I thought I'd go ahead and get the brand-name to go with the Fenders. It's great quality and plays well.

So there's a local retailer who has J style basses entitled Boundary I believe. Just saw that they're made in Vietnam. Is this their more affordable line?

I have been eyeing on Dark Evolutions for quite some time now. A fiver is now up for sale locally, I will have the chance to play it later this week, but I am curious what your long-term experiences are with the neck, especially the thickness. My other 5's are a Yamaha BB405 and an Ibanez EHB1505MS, I find these comfortable. I used to have a Warwick Rockbass Corvette 6, neck was ok on that, too, maybe a bit on the wide side, but after all that was a 6 string.

Edit: I would really appreciate if any of you owning a 5 DE could measure thickness at the 1st and 12th fret, I just could not find this info anywhere on the net.

YMMV, I found the neck a tad thick for my taste, especially in lower positions. There was some neck dive, too, I had no strap, but I could feel it seated. It was a first generation DE 5 (truss rod adjustment at the headstock).

I had no amp, either, the acoustic sound of the bass was good, and I knew what to expect in terms of tone, anyway.

What surprised me was that there was a dent between the pickups (by the bridge humbucker), where one or more of the previous owners used to rest their thumb. I thought ash was dense enough to withstand that, and, of course, it may as well be just a flaw of this particular example.

All in all, it is great sounding bass, has the looks, but it's not for me. Maybe, if Gen 4 will have a slimmer neck...

I think these are coming back. I want one. Since I can't afford the $5000.00 RIC 4005 V.

I just think they look cool and original, yet still sort of traditional looking.
