I've heard varying opinions. Should I Dime out my power amp and control volume/ settings 100% through the pre?
Thanks,

It's what I always do.
Me too... At least I did when I had separates.
That's best for signal to noise. If noise is't a problem it doesn't matter so long as you aren't blowing speakers.

For me, I generally keep the poweramp at about 1:00. 1:00 is generally the best knob position to operate at (be it power amps, rack gear, mic pre's, etc) and this will generally ensure that you won't blow your speakers.

This is nonsensical. Different manufacturers have differently tapered pots -- my 1 o'clock does not equal your 1 o'clock.
But which is the best position for metal???

For cleanest sound and maximum headroom, the poweramp should be turned all of the way up.
