Sweet bass! And, JimB52 if you're still reading, here's some interesting serial number data. Until a few years ago when I sold to a pal at the Fender forum, I owned the oldest known Fullerton '57, #V000360. No one has seen a lower s/n as of yet! It had body and neck codes of July 20th, 1982 and pickup codes of 7-21-82 and Nov. '81 pots. Plastic wiring of course! It was a great bass, but it was time to move on. I've since gotten a Nov. '82 one that's actually nicer.

Thanks for the info. That is the earliest # Bass I've heard of.
The serial numbers are all over the place. Mine's early Aug. '82, ser #002033, and I know of a June neck date with a ser. #0007xx, and I've heard of a May neck date, but no serial # info on that one.

My Jazz begins with V014 and I bought it new March 17, 1983.

All these '57 reissues are really causing a buildup of you-know-what on my part; I have a '57 style ESP copy which is gradually becoming my main gigging bass, and now I'm wondering what the real thing in Fullerton trim would be like...

Rev: I'm not sure...because they don't seem to be EXACTLY chronological..but I THINK that might be a little newer than '82 going by the serial #. Maybe mid-late '83?

Well, the serial numbers are all over the place, it's pretty much impossible to tell the date of manufacture from that. If you're not sure, ask him to take the neck off and take a picture, so you can see the date. That's a very reasonable request, given how much these usually go for these days.

And yes, they made both types of bursts. One of the finishes for the '57 reissue is two-tone burst, and for the '62 reissue, three-tone burst.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a '82. It's at The LowEnd Bass Shop. I'm pretty sure Brian would have taken the neck off and checked the neck date. I like the 2-Tone burst on th '57 reissues. They just have little different look to them.

This is a little off topic, but does anyone know how to age a new bridge? I plan on putting a Leo Quan Badass II on there and don't want it to look out of place on the bass. Someone either on TB or Harmony Central posted about using Coca-Cola to age chrome parts.

I just whipped out the screwdriver. pulled the pg and pots are dating to sometime in '82. there was a ton of grit under there too. next I removed the neck screws. I could hear the finish creak... I seriously doubt this bass has ever been pulled. anyway the neck wouldn't budge. I gave it a couple a whacks and nothing. i decided if it won't just come loose then I was going to force it. must be 25 years of mojo keeping it glued it together.
