Double Bass funny smell/noise from wt550

Hi,

so I have my WT550 now for 2 weeks and there is a funny smell when it is turned on. I had complaints about a funny smell from other musicians and it also annoys me. Did anyone experience the same thing? Please tell me it goes away!!

Also, today I played a gig with this amp and noticed a noise coming out of the amp - not the speakers - when I played around the tone A. It sounded like a screw is loose on the inside.....

Other than that I have to say that with the AKG C411 and the Acme LowB1s the sound is so great, very natural.

The smell could be the dust on the preamp tube cooking (seriously). Is it a burning kind of a smell?

The "screw loose" sound might be a bearing issue with the internal fan. Or, of course, it could be a loose screw! Either way, it's not something that I would probably want to let go on a new amp with full warranty.

sorry forget to ask in my answer: would the dust on the tube be something to worry about, or will the dust burn away and then the smell will be gone?

Nothing at all to worry about, and it sounds to me like this is what you are dealing with. No big deal, and it should eventually go away if you use it often (unless you are in a very high dust environment).
