Forgive me if this is a dumb question. But are the fuses in a bass amp the same as the fuses one may see at an auto parts store? I was in a hurry to record this idea so I plugged in my s w r bass amp using an instrument cable instead of a speaker cable and on top of that I used one of those red whammy multi effects before the signal change and everything went boop. And smelled like an old ladies hair salon for a second .

No, in general even though fuses look the same and may have the same current rating, the voltage rating is usually different.
The automotive industry uses (for the most part) 32V rated fuses and the amplifiers use 250V rated fuses.
If these are internal fuses, they are not intended to be end user replaced and generally only fail when there is a much bigger problem. When a QUALIFIED tech replaces them, there is a power up procedure that is generally different than just turning it on, and requires special equipment.
If it's the external fuse, replace it with the same fuse that the manufacturer specified, and if it blows it's time to stop and seek qualified, professional assistance. Also note that some parts are becoming difficult to source so it's critical that you don't cause additional damage.
