Fuzz Factory and Woolly Mammoth?

I am planning to build these two pedals and mounting them both in one box and then placing a switching circuit so that I can send the FF into the WM or the WM into the FF.

I know how to solder / wire everything, but I was wondering if anybody had experince with either of these pedals with active basses, as I have heard that they can produce some rather disastrous outcomes.

Also, would anybody say that these two pedals are too similiar to warrant placing in one box? If so, which would be the better oprion and what would a good substitute be?

I don't know about "disastrous results" but both of them sound substantially different with active basses than passive. For using them as part of a synthy combo (octaver into FF or WM) into filter it's not a big deal, but for use as a standalone fuzz sound I certainly didn't care for either with active basses.

I liked the Mammoth much more than the Fuzz Factory on bass but they do cover pretty similar ground. Running them together wouldn't be anything I'd want but we all have personal tastes and it depends on your application.

Have you tried either yourself?

I have listened to demos of the Woolly Mammoth, but couldn't find any of the Fuzz Factory. Im considering looking at another 'type' of circuit to include now

Both of the circuits are (I believe) moderately tweaked Fuzz Face circuits. And since I don't view either of them (especially the Mammoth) as versatile, I think another type of circuit would be a good idea.

One obvious drawback to not having tried the actual pedal is you'll never really know whether your clones is copping the actual tone!

I would recommend a different type of effect instead of running the two together. Neither really likes an active bass, and running two super heavy fuzzes into each other tends to be a disappointing experience. In either order, I feel like great results wouldn't be achieved.

i would also say that they're a bit too similar to warrant putting together. also, neither of them like actives, but i think theres a way to make them play better with actives. what about a mammoth/muff combo?

That's my feeling as well. But fuzzes are relatively easy circuits. But if the OP is up to it I say an 8 stage phaser and Mammoth clone would be nice. Like a pseudo jet phaser.

You can put an impedance buffer before the Mammoth. The Arger Capricorn (I believe that's what I'm thinking of) is a commercial offering that's basically a modded Mammoth with a buffer in front.
