I recently tried:
- Xotic Bass BB - Amazing at low to medium/heavy OD. Can ADD bass AND treble to your sound. Can be mellow and vintage or more HiFi and modern (which is what I was after to add some trebly 'bite' to my rig - This one was a keeper for me)
- Way Huge Pork Loin - Amazing at low to medium/Heavy OD. More of a vintagy vibe to the sound. Not nearly as HiFi as the BB can get, warmer and a bit deeper sounding overall. VERY nice at what it does. Sounds fabulous, just wasn't what I was after right now. Retained bass very well.
- Catalinbread SFT - I thought it had a very similar sound to the WHPL overall. Again, great at what it does, just not what I needed. I think I liked the WHPL more for this sound, but I can't really put my finger on why. I'd be happy with either if I needed that warm thick vintagy OD tone. Retained bass very well.
- Landmine LD-1 - This thing is SICK for insane over the top Distortion! Does NOT lose low end, and even adds some. This one's a keeper for now. I might find it redundant with my AG500's OD channel (they actually have a similar sound when the AG500 is on full blast), but I like it enough to see if it will fit in for a 3 stage (aggressive clean - heavy overdrive - Insane distortion) setup.
- Little BIg Muff - Didn't lose much low end. I liked the sound, but it just wasn't me. I'm not really a 'fuzz' guy, I'm a crazy distortion guy when it comes to that, I'm finding. Some wouldn't hear a difference, but I don't like the way fuzz pedals 'break up' or 'come apart', I like a more smooth high gain distortion sound for that over the top sound. Just personal preference. If you like Fuzz, this one is a good one.
- Seymour Duncan TweakFuzz - really a guitar fuzz. Sounded good with bass. Lost a little low end, but not much to my ear. less smooth than the LBM. I liked it, but it wasn't for me.
- Bass Big Muff - Did everything it was supposed to, just wasn't the flavor I wanted. I didn't like the tone and couldn't find the sound I was after. Wouldn't recommend against it based on this. Just personal preference.
Hope some of that is helpfull...
