The tone knob on 99% of the fuzz pedal's I've tried don't achieve the desired effect since they're altering the sound of the fuzz itself, rather than the tone of the signal entering the fuzz.

Fuzz Pedal with Tone Knob BEFORE Fuzz Circuit?

CRAP. Just watched the Wampler Official Demo / Explanation video, and the "pre-fuzz / post fuzz" toggle is for the OCTAVE, NOT the EQ. CRAP. So close.
Perhaps if it's that important, an EQ pedal (empress ParaEQ?) before your fuzz is the best way (although split between 2 pedals).
The pre/post is the octave (when engaged) pre or post fuzz. The low/mid/high is pre. But the octave complements the fuzz and putting the octave post fuzz really thickens the low end.
If you do have to resort to the fallback, a looper could be easily made to have the EQ on a toggle to go before or after the loop.
I've got the ParaEQ — GREAT bit of kit with a BOOST that can come on when you engage the EQ, or configure the boost to be its own separate thingerjigger. This thread makes me want to play around with a fuzz (BDSM, Zeus, or Imposter) and the ParaEQ in the loop(s) of my LS-2...

Sweet. As long as the EQ is pre-fuzz, this should do the trick nicely.
I think I'll still (also) have Ryan @ Fuzzrocious experiment and build me a custom GreyStache with a tone knob (or switch) pre-Fuzz.
@fu22ba55 there is nothing wrong and everything right with having more than one fuzz. That would be a sweet box.
I think you have your answer with a custom grey stache from @rratajski. Ryan is awesome and the stache is the business.
for posterity, the SolidGoldFx Beta DLX sorta does what you looking for. Technically it’s an overdrive. You can cut bass pre drive through the boost. Plus you can cut bass in the drive itself. If you dime the internal trim pot, it does get pretty saturated.
