Fuzz that Keeps the Thump

I might suggest the Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie B is worth a look. Doesn't seem to be as popular on Talkbass as the TFR and other W&C muff-based offerings, but it has plenty of thump plus a clean blend that is designed to avoid the "bees in the background" effect that plagues many high gain pedals with blend knobs. I'm haven't had much time to work with it, but the left side of the Saturation knob in conjunction with the blend yields some great grainy medium-gain fuzz tones that retain the bass and the character of the instrument better than some other muffs I've tried.
+1 Can't say enough about this pedal. It's one "Hella Fuzz." The clean blend is great. Really blends the clean and fuzz into one sound; it doesn't come off like an added signal like lots of blends. Another feature is the Pickle Pie B delivers stronger mids, helping to cut through the mix. But that may be why it's not so popular -- most probably prefer a scooped tone. One tip: The Pickle Pie B works best in my opinion as the first dirt pedal; driving it with an OD, even a light OD, makes it one out-a control "Hella, Hella Fuzz." YMMV.
