Fuzz vs Distortion?

I recently got a new octaver and boost pedal that I want to put onto my board, but I would need to take a pedal off. I have a Big Muff Op Amp and a MD-2 and I'm stuck on which is the better overall for my board. I mainly play post punk, shoegaze, and noise rock (also a lot of jazz but I don't use pedals most of the time for it). Which is the better for me to take off my board? (Also I already have an OD)

The only right answer is to get a bigger board!! I tend to pick and choose which distortion flavors to use depending on the band mix or what the guitar slinger uses. For parts to blend or double I go with their preferred flavor and choose something different for the parts I want to be my own. IMHO it's all part of the fun to have different flavors to try out, these days it seems those choices to be endlessly expanding.

Do you mean MBD-2? That's one of my favorites, but for your listed genres, I'd probably stick with the Muff. It'll be a bit more abrasive than the MBD-2, as well as working well with the octaver. But ultimately, it's whichever tones you like and work with your mix.

Here's another option if you need to keep the size of your board under control - think about swapping out one or both for a Line6 HX One. I don't even have a board of my own, but I'm finding all sorts of little jobs I might be able to nail using this thing.

I'm not an effects heavy, but I want to sometimes be able to do this 'n that. The HX One isn't as complex as something like an HX Stomp, which would certainly overwhelm me if I tried to do much of anything with one of those. What's great about this HX One is that it will only do one pedal effect at a time... but it will be a lot of different things, both for bass and also guitar (I noodle at home).

If you're not familiar with this little box, I recommend that you look at a rundown of what it does. You can do a LOT of different drives, lots of different fuzzes - useful fuzzes - and then there's other stuff; modulation, octave effects, yaddah-yaddah. Instead of needing to go shopping for this pedal for one song and that pedal for another, I can save myself from needing to make that investment and having to manage all that gear by using this.

Bonus points: it sounds fantastic.

Bonus-Bonus points: it's easy to tweak.
