Fuzzrocious BDPG (Preamp/OD) Review...The Submarine has Sunk!

The Dido image appears when I read the thread on my phone w/the app, but the "no hotlinking" celeb thing appears when I use my laptop w/Iron w/Adblock.

Anyway, if I hadn't seen the Dido image first, I would have assumed the picture was of something that is spelled quite similarly!

A couple of questions about the pedal:

1) Is the overdrive circuit you added "the same as" or "similar to" any other od pedal you could name?

2) The thing that spoiled the Sub Designer for me was a hiss noise in the very high frequency range, let's say up around 20KHz; not audible through a normal bass amp at all but audible through a hifi listening rig; does this version have the same thing?

Note to readers, if you loved the Sub already then what I'm describing would not bother you whether it's there or not. :)

The gain circuit is lpb-1 set up for bass (or g****r). No hiss that I can hear on my rig or on headphones. YMMV though!
But with the circuit driving the preamp hard (when turned up), it doesn't sound like a lpb-1...it just sounds different...can't explain it.

Actually I am quite impressed with how quiet this. I should have mentioned it in my review. Even running other pedals into it doesn't add any hiss. Of course if you run something that has alot of his into it, there's not much you can do! I have gotten rid of several different pedals in my time that sounded great, but had hiss. I simply CAN'T do hiss!
As far as other OD's, I can't really name one it reminds me of. Like I said I've never been able to keep one I like either because of the hiss, the tone colorization, or just because it didn't suit my ears.

I didn't want to copy yr whole description, but I have some questions re: BDPG and Filters.

Yes, this thing is quite something and really does add that little extra to yr sound while running it at the end of the chain.

I, however, am having some problems dialing it in to jive with my filters :confused:

I have both a Grinder and Xero dlx and it seems when the BDPG is on the Filter sweeps almost vanish??
Any thoughts?? - my tone knob (on the BD) is usually a little on the Bass side

If you're filtering out the higher frequencies with the bdpg, there isn't much to filter with a filter, right?

Ok, here is a quick CLEAN rough demo for ya!
Just my straight flat clean tone and then the Fuzzrocious Broke Dick Peanut Gallery set for clean. The gain is about 11 o'clock, the tone is about 9:30.
I'm just flat clean at the very beginning for a couple of measures, then at the beginning of the Zeppelin riff for a couple of measures. The rest is BDPG.
I guess this isn't 100% clean as it was purposely made not to be, but trust me it warms up quite nicely indeed. Ryan feels that even the faintest of grit only helps cut thru and does something harmonically, and I agree. This kills my old Submarine by a long shot IMO.
Forgive me if this doesn't turn out well, I just got a new Apogee Duet 2 and I'm having a hard time dialing in bass tones yet and this is the 1st recording, but I know people want to hear this clean so I wanted to post something...Cheers!
