I'm just kidding, man! I think I originally got my Mail Order Muff because of you. We have very similar tastes so I always trust your opinion.

Haha I know my man. I unfortunately no longer have the MOM had to give it back to my friend who loaned it to me, but he's been getting some good use of it, so all is good. But when it comes down to it the demon king/OSD is just next level of awesome dirt. And as you know, I've tried more than
most. Like I said before, inspiring.

How would you compare the Rat Tail to the Oh See Demon? Type of gain? I am just waiting till Thursday to put my kid paint order in for an Oh See Demon with second drive and clean option. woot!

I prefer the OSD over the RT/RK (as I have both) just because the OSD is more consistent dirt tone with a bit of mid scoop where the Rat is very nasty and nasal driven dirt tone, still extremely useful to have on your board. Brian Cook from Russian Circles mainly uses the OSD over the RT he has on his board. I would definitely consider the DK as well if you choose to go the OSD as the extra dirt can go a long way my friend.

At the end of the day I want to upgrade my OSD to a DK and have just my RK and DK on my board for dirt tones as they are both insanely awesome quality pedals.

I found the RT to be very difficult to dial in, it was either too nasty or not nasty enough, and very "rough" sounding. Perfect if you want your tone to stand out front in the mix, but didn't work for me.

The OSD sounded exactly the way I wanted it to right out of the box, and I haven't found a bad tone with it yet. It's a lot smoother than the RT, even at higher gain settings, and sits in the mix in a way that sort of meshes with the guitars a lot nicer IMO.

I would tottally do the same, especially if there was a Grey Stache King! (With a second sustain and Tone bypass controls in a big box!) :) I use my DK more than anything though, but I cant quit the fuzz/muff tone for one of my dirt. So, I basically use my DK for cleaner distortion and my Stache for everything else. ALL THIS SAID, I have never tried the Rat before!

Just ask Ryan to build it for you :)

Mine has a Gate switch + knob, Tone Bypass switch, 4 types of diodes (2 switches). It's a big enclosure like the "King" pedals. Feels like the nicest pedal I will ever own :)

Thanks for the helpful info. I DO want the second drive option, as I feel is something is worth doing, it is worth overdoing. Maybe I am being a bit short sighted, but I don't see using the feedback or the gate on the DK that much. And I think the OSD with 2nd drive will cover most of the ground I need without the larger footprint.

when i think of a rat or rat tail on bass I think of TOOL
D'Amore and Chancellor. The OSD reminds me of QOTSA (1st LP)

Nice way to describe the tone difference. I had RK for a short amount of time and traded it, partly due to the size and partly due to the extra features that I didn't think I would use. It looks like I dig the middle pedal size enclosure options, trying to squeeze as much into it as possible.

For my gig in Marsupious getting the Terrordactyl next makes the most sense, i actually need it to avoid having to tap dance on my board between fuzz and filters, I just dont here much about it. Is it as killer as I think it is or what?

So, spent some time with my new BDPG this weekend and I was pretty impressed. With other effects driving it or alone it did seem to really fatten up my tone in a pleasing way. To the point that when I would listen to my bass dry I didn't really like the way it sounded dry as much as I used to. lol

Question is.... I understand in theory what unity gain means.... And the pre-gain knob says it needs to be at noon to be at least at/above unity, so what would the advantages/disadvantages be of running it below unity? I pretty much left that knob at noon and played with the tone knob with various effects driving it.....

the lower the input gain, the cleaner the signal, just like the input gain on your amp(unless you use Sunn0((( ) if you run it lower there may be a volume cut when you turn it off, wich wont matter if you leave it on all the time and boost the input of your amp.

I don't post much over here on Talkbass, mostly over on Basschat.co.uk, but certainly always up for showing some Fuzzrocious love :D.

Had my kid-paint Grey Stache for around 8 months now and it's my go to Fuzz!
Just got hold of a BDPG which is awesome, get to gig it in a few days.
Also have a custom OSD & a girlkid-paint Rat Tail on the way from Ry....can't wait! :D
