G-K Neo 12" cabs, tone gen 1 v. current version?

For many years, my rig has been G-K MB-500 head through a late first gen Neo112 cab. It's quite beastly for a little rig, but sometimes I want more, so I'm thinking of trading my Neo112 toward a new Neo212 at GC. It's bigger than my cab, of course, but it's only about five pounds heavier. This could be a nice upgrade without that much more hassle.

So, has the tone of these cabs changed much over the generations? I love the tone of my Neo112, so I hope the new Neo212 would be similar, and I don't think a short test of a brand new cab in GC will be conclusive, especially because, in my experience with two of the 112 cabs, the tone changes with break-in.

Well, I did the trade today. Got what I expected for my old cab, and they also cut the price of the new cab by 10%, so it ended up being a nice deal. (Especially with no sales tax in Delaware!) I haven't spent much time with it yet, but the overall tonality seems similar to my old Neo112, with a little more lows--not surprising for a 2x12 v. a 1x12--and fewer highs. It sounds relatively balanced with my amp's EQ set flat, whereas with the old cab I usually cut treble and upper mids down to 9:00.

But this is just in the house, and it isn't fully broken in, so my perceptions might change. Sounds great though, no question about that.

Since it's four ohms, I'll get 500 watts out of my MB-500, and should have no volume issues whatsoever.

I'd be interested to know if the low mids are predominant like some 12 cabs can be imo. It's not as much of a problem with a jazz bass but with a P it can be muddy and just too much.
