G&L JB-2 Owners!

Just got hold of a mint condition JB-2 Tribute and love this thing; exactly what I want from in a bass.

I was going to make one small mod and change the pickups so my question is two fold:

1) Will any aftermarket Jazz pickups fit nicely into the existing routes?

2) If so, what pickups would you recommend for a vintage 60s style sound? I usually string it with Roto nickels and play in a power trio (Cream/Hendrix style) if that helps.

I guess S and L should stand for Short and Long.

Ah, yes, sorry I was not too clear. I thought so too, but I also thought pickups weren't that standardized that a simple short or long would be enough to know if one model is a direct replacement for another In any case that sort of suggests what the OP is asking for should likely work (i.e. they are not a unique and incompatible size).

Well, If it were “exactly” what you wanted in a bass you wouldn’t change anything. I don’t know that a pick-up change is a small one. I like mine with the G&ls it came with. That said, Fender aftermarket think is for a longer bridge pick-up. JB-2s are both the same size so you’d have to use a sharp chisel and slightly elongate the bridge pick-up route. Good luck with it!
