G&L L-1000 with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Strings = Magic

WOW! I had no Idea a brand of strings could have such a profound effect on the sound of a bass. I just A/B'd my 1982 G&L L1000 with D'Addario Nickel Wound Mediums with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's:

The Ernie Balls are louder, a little more taut, more defined, punchier and just have a noticeably more ballsy sound. No comparison. It's like they were MADE for this bass. Finger style.. so defined and articulate, and slap.. DAMN. The D'addarios don't hold a candle on this bass.

Anyone Else have that experience with the Slinky's?

At one point I had a 1987 L-1000, don't think I ever used Slinkys on it.

However, I have never cared for Slinkys very much at all. Each time I've used them I found they had a rather tinny type of sound. Not horrible, but not something I want. I've always had much better luck with D'Addarios, and other brands. That's the beautiful/crazy thing about strings. One person's reaction to one set is the opposite of somebody else's. And nobody is wrong.

I might try Slinkys again though, it's been years since I've used them, and it would be the first time trying them on my Vigier.

That's what I'm talking about! Man that translucent blue is awesome with the wood grain. That bass is definitely on my must have list.

I use EB cobalt flats on all my basses, but I didn't know the regular slinky sets had purple silk too. You are talking about roundwounds right?

It's pretty beasty. Compared to a P it's a good bit more present with a nice balanced high end that defines notes just a bit more. Sounds amazing slapping with new slinkys.. almost active sounding but with all the warmth of a passive bass. I'm really loving the L1000, I must say. My Jazz is not getting any attention since the L1000 moved in~!

When I did rock rounds I liked 105 on the E too. I'm not one of these guys that will rock dead flats forever either though. I too enjoy the crisp highs and gut punch mids of new strings. Glad to hear it made your wunkay even better!

This set came on the used Kiloton I recently bought.
I'm loving them, and thinking I may get another set to try on my L1k.
