You can get a Stingray with a 38mm nut, same as the Sterling or a Jazz. It's called a Stingray SLO Special. Nicest neck I've played, and with the added benefit of a second humbucker makes a great bass.

If you're near Orlando, I don't know why anyone would go to GC, when Bass Central is right there. And the OP being a lefty, no problem, they stock lots of what you want to test out. They also used to be a Wal dealer, so they probably have an idea of what model bass to put in your hands to try out.
