G&L L2500 vs Tribute for less noise

Greetings from the North,

The Tribute line of G&L has been in production for a few years now. I played one a while back and it didn't have any noise issue as in hum/buzz etc. Maybe it was a fluke but I was wondering if the Tribbys are indeed quieter than the Cali made models and if they are.....why? I know there is a G&L forum but I thought I might get a wider respnse here.

AFAIK, there is a capacitor in he circuit on the US made ones that does something slightly different when in either series or parallel. That cap supposedly causes a slight buzz, as it changes the two coils' relationship to each other, and slightly throws off the humbucking thing. This cap is no in the tribbys, so they are, in fact, quieter.

The US built 2500 I had didn't make any buzzing sounds. It was built in 2000.

Depends on model and year. My 2001 L-1505 is dead quiet.
I'm not a techie but from what I remember the cap on the earlier models can be removed to eliminate the hum problem. My old (1995) L-2500 hummed in series mode but since I used it in parallel mode all the time it wasn't an issue. Go to the talkbass G&L forum. Lot's of good folks with tons of G&L knowledge there.
