G&L Neck Construction

Hi there G&L folks. I just bought willsellout's 91 SB-2 and noticed that it has bi-laminated neck construction. I thought all G&L's were one piece necks! I don't remember reading this fact anywhere before. Could some of you knowledgeable folks give me a history lesson on these necks?

BTW - it's spooky how responsive this bass is. It feels like it's anticipating what I'm going to play...
