G&L Neck Problems

I've read two or three different posts about people having to replace the necks on their L2000's. Is this an ongoing problem, or something from the past? I've heard such rave reviews of these basses, but never heard of another bass that needed neck replacements in such quantity.

I've had maybe 20 G&L's since 1981.
I've not had any neck problems with any of them.
You might in the G&L forum here. It's down a few sections.

I've read that they recently changed their neck manufacturing method, from the once-thought-state-of-the-art "bi-cut" method, to a more standard, one-piece construction.

So, as I understand, the new necks are more solid. I had two late '90s ones, and although they could have used a planning (both fretless) to even out high/low spots, they felt pretty solid.

But I'm no G&L expert.

My G&L neck is the most stable I own, feels like it's made of rock. I've had it for about a decade. G&L has Just gone to a new style trussrod system so I can't comment on the new ones.

I've had an L-2000, a Climax bass, and an Sb-1. I passed on my friend's SB-2 fretless because it had a 'fretboard hump' at the body end, and I could never get my L-2000 action low enough for my tastes, but the SB-1 and Climax were fine, as were my friend's ASAT and L-2000 with the thin neck.

Are of the bi-cut variety (which I still think is probably one of the most innovative and solid designs out there)...they are solid and do not require adjusting even with the vast humidity and temp changes where I live.

I have an ASAT with the #8 (jazz) bi-cut neck & it's the most solid neck out of the 7 basses I own.

Every one I mentioned was a bi-cut, BTW. The L-2000 was a sig.

I have owned 6 G&L's. One did have a rise at the body end of the fretboard. The neck on my 2001 L1505 is perfect as far as I can tell.

My only problem with my L-2000 Tribute is that my fretting hand is more comfortable with a jazz neck. My tribby's neck is 1.5/8ths at the nut. I prefer 1.1/2 width. Other than that, it plays great.
