G&L Reset.....

Oh yeah, resale- especially the Leo era basses- has improved steadily. For example the L-1000 and L-2000. Just 7-8 years ago you could pick these up on ebay for $400-$500 easily (occassionaly less!), many times with the original Tolex cases. I picked and flipped a bunch of these over the years and you've got to work pretty hard to find one of the Leo era gems in that price range today even with the economy where it's at now.

Somebody is waking up to G&L's products. If you ever get a chance, check out their website www.glguitars.com and see which artists are usuing their products. There are a lot of big name studio and mainstream acts using the gear, for whatever reason G&L doesn't use them for marketing.

And what do you think the retailer's opinion would have been if you had called him while he still had them?

Never trust anything somebody is sales tells you... It's just their nature to BS. That's how they make a living. He's not going to tell you... "Oh yeah, G&L is great... I don't have them, so go buy a guitar from somebody who does".

Most likely he had some falling out with them over something... Argument over wholesale prices, damaged merchandise... whatever. It happens.

That seems outrageous, I ordered a brand new Skyline 44-64 (Formerly Bob Glaub) and it is supposed to be in my hands in 3 weeks, 4 weeks MAX from the day of order. Hopefully that holds true :smug:

I have had a lot of customer experience with G&L. It took me forever to get an issue resolved with them. They never get back to you. I was also treated really rudely by one guy just because I had the audacity to keep bugging them...:spit: They finally replaced my trib l-2000 but that was after a lot of effort.
I do love both my tribys tho..:bassist:

It may not be the Cadillac of basses, but I've been playing an L2000 Tribute for about 4 years now and I have not a single complaint - they are well-made, hold tuning well, and have the capability to produce a fantastic variety of sounds. (Bought mine online, so I can't comment about support / availability in local shops...)

Well service issues aside, I love both of my tribby l-2000s. I will admit that I would buy them again. While it took G&L a while to resolve my problem, they did do the right thing by replacing my bass. If I could not get ahold of a triby, I would pay full price for a US made one. Thats how much I love them. It is THE bass for me soundwise. The only other bass I gas for is a Rick or a Wal..and since I only own 2 tribys, you can guess that those two basses are out of my reach for now!:D

I have the good fortune of living in the same city where G&L builds their guitars, Fullerton, CA. I believe it is actually in the same building that Fender originally was in. That being said, you don't see them as much, even around here, as I would expect. I currently own a Tribute L2000 and I owned a U.S. made ASAT Special and a Tribute L2500 in the past. I would buy another G&L without hesitation.

I wish they were a little more high profile, and that they maybe had more models to choose from. But what they do they do very well.

Their sales may pick up if that catches on............At least in some clubs! Maybe we could get some rainbow colored headstock decals! ;)

I have a dozen G&L's............They have all been good, both USA, and Tribute! Although, I am selling off all my Tribute models, only because I never play them! :rollno:

I own 2 G&L's, a L1500 and an ASAT and believe me, these are solid, killer sounding instruments. I have owned a number of G&L's and they have all been great basses. I ve kept the 2 that I love and sold the rest. I've had my ASAT for 13 years and it is better than ever. Play one before you pass judgement.

You mean something like my #1 (which is fretless as well)?

I got it one year ago. It was a strange feeling to own and play a bass that simply flat-out sounds better than the basses on professional recordings.

I also have this--a 5-string mandolin-fretted L-1505 with Macassar ebony board and matching headstock. It's like holding dynamite in your hands.

G&L's are too underrated. I think people just don't know enough about them. The history, legacy, tone options, build quality etc. Blame it on marketing or whatever but one thing it does is keep prices in check. Prices aren't inflated like other brands I can think of.

+1 for that , I love my ASAT it is IMHO more comfortable to play standing up than my Pbass,

We have one store locally that carries G&L and they only get a few in here and there and they are mostly US models, When I asked the owner of the shop why they don't carry more G&L stuff he said simply...Fender sells better. This is why he stopped carrying EB , not so much for there bass sales but guys just weren't intrested in there guitars and basses took a while to sell, while every kid would come in and slap the hell out them playing higher ground. to be like flea ,

Personally I kinda like that there isn't 20 basses like mine in every store I go into, I really don't know of too many players in my area with ASATs and I like that .
