G&L SB-2 Repair or Sell?

I have a '97 G&L SB-2 (with three bolt neck) that I am struggling to decide what to do with. The truss rod is broken and the split-coil pickup is unresponsive. I've heard that it's very difficult to find a good replacement neck for G&Ls and the pickup has to come direct from G&L because of the unique shape. I had it looked at by a tech who said that there's nothing to do about the neck and he couldn't figure out why the pickup wasn't working.

A little more about the neck; it has a square heel that's 2.4" wide and 0.9" thick. 21 frets.

Based on my research I believe I could get a custom neck from USA Custom Guitars for $260 and the pickup for $80; and that's before tax and shipping. I'm planning on using this just as a practice bass so I don't have to transport my EBMM as much so I feel like at that point I should pick up something used or a new VM Squier.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
