I am primarily an upright player. I only own one electric bass "just in case". I have also just played upright so my knowledge of electric basses is very limited. I have a 1991 or 1992 G&L SB-2. Are these good basses? What are their pros and cons? How much is it worth? (it is in BRAND NEW condition).

Yeah, i traded for the bass about 4 years ago and have just put it up and never played it. I saw another thread on here and it made me think to ask about the bass. I have seen any of those for sale on here and I was wondering if i did well on my trade.

In other words, it's against forum rules to ask a question about the value of a bass unless you're a Supporting Member.

The SB-2 is an awesome bass! I'm not sure how the pickups can be too powerful for some ears, though. Every Volume knob I've ever seen would go all the way down to 0... :hiding:

Thanks for the input! I usually stay on the upright forum....they are not near as pissy as SNYDERZ....Didnt know asking value was "taboo", sorry to break your unwritten rules.

The volume knob on my SB-1 changes the tone too much for my taste. I just run it full bore and attenuate further down the signal chain. Also the volume knob on mine doesn't actually cut all of the signal. I should open her up and see if that's correct or not.

Yeah, I was really referring to the volume knob on the amp. I, too, prefer to run the P pickup vol on my SB-2 wide open -for the tone.

The volume knob on yours not cutting all the signal does sound strange. I wonder if your volume pot does not have its third lug hooked up to ground or something.

Getting back to the SB-2, I'll echo all the above sentiments: solid bass, often underrated, and IMHO, underappreciated.

I just bought a 1991 SB-2 in tobacco sunburst, maple fret board. its by far the best bass i ever laid hands on, currently strung with flatwounds, This is definitely a pbass and a jazz bass morphed into one. any of the knob combinations i tried sound amazing, My favorite is both knobs all the way up, it sounds like a musicman bass but its passive and has more of a vintage tone. I have found my workhorse bass.
