G&L Tribute L2000 and distortion pedals.

Hey guys,

I'm planning to buy G&L tribute L2000 bass, and was wondering how this bass handles Distortion/fuzz pedals ? I've read that Active basses don't sound good with fuzz pedals, and G&L L2000 is sort of active right ?

So my question is, should I buy G&L tribute L2000, or passive Squier Fender VM bass, to play with Fuzz/distortion pedals ?

I used to have an L2000 Tribby. Great sounding bass. It handled distortion and fuzz no problem. You can always run it in passive mode too. The pickups are very hot on their own. Even in passive mode. The tones you can get from a L2000 is very broad. Much more versatile bass IMO.

I typically run mine in active (but w/o the treble boost), and have no problem, in any of the possible coil configuration (I modded to have all four possibilities available). I actually have far more issues with a P-bass with an SD quarter pounder being too hot. For the L2K, the overall trick is not to dime any of the controls unless you have a compelling reason to do so...I think they get the reputation for being too hot from folks running everything at 10.

I've got an l2000 trib and I love using it with fuzz. The only thing you've got to keep in mind is that this bass is very hot and so you definitely have to set some pedals a bit different than if you were to switch between passive and active. Honestly though the only pedals I've run into issues with an active bass would be envelope filters...but you can still usually tweak it to handle the hotter signal if you start turning some knobs.

+1 on the decision with the l2000 it's incredibly versatile
