G much brighter than other strings

I have a Guild acoustic bass guitar. I bought some D'Addario half-round strings for it, and the G string is so much brighter than the other strings that it practically sounds like it is made of different material. Is there anything I can do about this?

Some people (not including me) swear by Eucerin Cream as one of the best string-deadening agents. You can try it just on the G and see what happens.
