Jayda custom basses, builder
Time for another build!

Havn't quite buttoned down the design yet. But I have a few ideas for some of the details.

It's going to be a 6 string fretless, semi-hollow, neck through. I'm going to have a go at winding my own pups. Not sure what yet, but leaning towards jazzs.

The woods:

My thoughts were: panga panga neck with 2 zebrano stringers. Maple core with zebrano top and back (probably chuck in a panga panga accent between the two). Either an indian rosewood fingerboard or a panga panga. Is panga panga suitable for necks? Will zebrano work as stringers?

Just because the pic came out cool, one last pic of the previous bass.

I'll let you know more once I've figured out a design!

It unfortunately got dropped when I was still working on it which damaged the bridge. It was awaiting me getting some more african blackwood so that I could make a new one. I got some african blackwood scraps in the last trip to the wood shop, so I should be able to sort it out soon. Although that bridge is still functional. That bass has been getting regular use for about 5/6 months now!

Back on topic. Is it okay to use zebrano as stringers in a neck?
Any constructive criticism on the shape or the design so far?

Is that going to give me problems?

the pressure would be uneven...using heavy cauls helps to even out the pressure...more clamps is good, too...based on what I've seen, you could easily use 12-14 clamps on a neck like that...

since the outer laminates are thick, you might end up ok...but don't keep this practice.

If you notice any gaps when it's dried, you're kind of out of luck.

Bit of progress. The neck came out fine. There was one small gap (about 0.5mm x 10mm), but that won't be a prolem (saw dust and glue ;) )

Busy gluing up a tranny block / lower core for the neck. But here is the neck so far:

Still needs a bit of tidying up. Just want to get all the laminates glued first.

Also my parts arrived from stewmac and finished up my templates.
Should hopefully make some more progress this weekend :)
