Gadow Basses?

Just had to come back and say that the Gadow is awesome. Plays great, Ryan made a neck that was like a KSD 705 that I had but thinner. So it's a nice wide spaced 5 string neck with 19mm spacing at the bridge. The electronics are spanking, complete J on steroids thing. But I was a fan of single coils into the j-retro before anyways. You guys should check one out if you can!

I work for Ryan part-time and saw that bass just before it went out the door. I was blown away by the tone. Even through that seriously crappy keyboard amp Ryan keeps at the shop, it was incredible. It has a very unique voice.

We are starting my Gadow 5 string pretty soon and I'm hoping it turns out as well as yours did. I'm going with a 34" scale bound neck, Redwood burl top on Swamp Ash, probably.

On an unrelated note, we borrowed your Phil Jones Briefcase amp for the Raleigh guitar show and was so impressed by it that I bought one, too. It's perfect for my practice room and the low-key gigs I'm playing these days.

You aren't the finish guy are you?

The aggie pickups I played in the other bass sounded awesome. What kind of electronics are you going to use? He did a killer job of copying a neck that I liked, so yeah this thing feels like home. Looking forward to seeing yours!

And yeah, the briefcase is awesome, there isn't a battery powered amp that comes close to that thing.

No, the finish guy is Stike. I'm Ben Davis. I used to play with Doug Carter a few years ago in "Elements."

I'm probably going to go with an Aguilar OBP-3 and the Aggie pickups too. I think I'll have to talk to him about the preamp though, because I just realized that yours has an East preamp, doesn't it? I'm considering adding the piezo bridge and MIDI interface.

I've picked out the top for it already and will be posting build pics on the Gadow forum when we get started.

I'm also working on one of his cast-offs-- a Thunderbird bass body that he got a little too "creative" with. I'm going to put a 4A flame top on it and maybe turn it into a five string so I can use a Carvin neck I've had laying around for a while.

Oh, that's right. I remember seeing your photoshopped bass, I think. I've seen a Nordstrand MM sitting on the desk, I presume that is yours.

I think we just cut out his t-bird last night. It's going to be sweet.

He's had tough time with the Diamondwood fb, though.

But, you are going with that new semi hollow? Piezos would be a great way to go for that imo. That shoulds be freakin awesome!

Id like to see that castoff, I am due for a visit......

I'd believe it, that Diamondwood is hard,hard stuff,and must be to work with too, espcially if you haven't used it before.

I've a bass with a diamond board, I bought used a year ago, and used heavily since then with rounds, and it's still almost new looking, has just slight marks you can see, but not feel.


I'll be keeping an eye on the Gadow forumfor you build too! :D
