Double Bass Gallien-Krueger 1001rb with a DB

I'm going to buy this head. I will use it with an Acme Low B2 and with a fishman platinum EQ.

I know that with the electric bass this head has a great tone and i tried it several times. But never with an upright.
I have an old 200MB combo and i love it's tone with my upright.


Have you ever tried it with a DB? Your opinions?

I generally play a lot of styles with my double bass mainly jazz, blues but also country and rock and roll.

Hi. I have a 1001 rb II which I play through a schroeder 1210 r (no pre, rev solo II into input). If you need volume the gk will provide but I don't think this is a very natural/woody sound head, though it is pretty decent. I never tried the head with double bass and other cabs and I have to admit that I am not really convinced of the combination gk/schroeder even for the electric. If you only played jazz I would advise you to look elsewhere. Since you play a lot of styles the gk might suit you.

It kind of depends on what style of music you play most often.
The 1001 RB II is probably better suited as a Rock, R &B and Country amp. You didn't mention whether you are going to double on electric bass either. That's certianly a consideration. GK's do have 1 megohm inputs that are piezo friendly. I'm not sure wheather you would ever be able to actually use the an acoustic instrument at the volume levels the 1001 is able to produce. So you may be actually spending money on power that you won't ever use. It also weighs 18 lbs thats pretty heavy lifting if you are using a 50 lb Acme Low B-2 and an upright.

Thanks for the answers, i'm going to play it even with my electric bass.

Thinking about what you said about the gk sound and power i think i will use the GK 200MB combo (maybe with an extension cabinet) for the jazz gigs to have a more natural sound and i can use the GK 1001 RB for louder gigs and styles (both with electric and upright) for blues, rock and R&B.

However i'm going to try it this thursday from a friend.

This was my main rig for some time. It works fine, sounds great, and you'll never be at loss for volume. I used it in a big band setting and it was the bomb.

One warning, you'll need to get away from the amp or you'll be managing feedback problems.

It's killer for EB. Buy it, you won't regret it. I found a combo (1001 in a tiltback w/ 15") for $700 new.

That is the rig I use -- GK1001RBII into an Acme Low B2. I play upright 90 percent of a gig and a P the other 10.

Some times I love it -- bigger venues that require more volume. And, like stated previously above, you need to get away from the cab or you'll howl.

For quieter gigs, it's overkill, at least for me. And it's a lot of weight to tote around.

Just for kicks, I borrowed a friends GKMB112 and re-fell in love with it. I used it one gig with only the P, and it was great. A couple of days later, just with the upright, and it was great again.

Hence me listing both my GK head and Acme for sale here. They're both super high-quality items, just more than I need.

The 1001/Acme had tons of low, but it doesn't sound as much like an upright than the MB112. But the P through it is some serious thump.

Of course, in three or four months I'll go through all this gear-changing crap again....It's a sickness. It was even worse when I played guitar.

FYI: I use an Underwood or a Realist, usually with an fdeck preamp. That thing has a little switch that can make all the difference in the world between feedback or not. Don't leave home with it.
