Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

I know. It was a great hang.. I wish we could have met up too!
Peter Montessi has some new toys.. If you pM me I will email you some pics. I also have them on my FB posts..

I do have to say that i was surprised by the potency of the GK combo that Norm was using.. YES he was in the PA..
BUt i was talking with him at his short soundcheck and right up on teh amp.. It moves air! and has clarity.. And Norm is such a nice person.. So grateful and kind!

The show is growing each year. This year as always Oscar Cartaya and his band closed the show and KILLED!!!!
Lee Sklar was there most of the morning. He is such a kind hearted man. He and I talked about our dogs and mutual buds.. But he is in rehearsal with Phil Collins this week. Seeing if Phil is up to going out again..
Jeremy Jermot, Chuck Rainey, Mike Merrit, Nate Watts were there most of the day..Until we kicked them out! HA.
All the donation, Raffle money etc went to Animal Holistic Veterinary Heath...
The celebrities really helped bring in the money.. SO thanks to all of them and their kindness and open checkbooks.!

Kirk, I wish I could have made that...To much going on back home gigs wise and earthly stuff to make it.
Thanks for posting.

Hey GKers,

I have REALLY wanted a modular, lightweight setup under a grand.

So I stumbled upon the new MB combo series. They look INCREDIBLY cool. 500watts out of a 2x12 under 40lbs!? Fantastic!

So a few questions (Either I don't search talkbass well, or there isn't a LOT about these guys on here):

Why would I go for the 2x12 and not the 2x10 (it's a hundy cheaper)

What can I expect as far as tone difference from Ampeg? (I've been through a bunch of their stuff SVT-PRO w/ hlf 4x10, BA series, and now I have a B-100R I love very much, and a PF-350 with 2 SVT210AV cabs- which I don't love very much)

And lastly, if anyone knows how the MB112+MB112MBE would fair at *slightly* larger gigs (not outdoor). - I only worry about maybe being underpowered with only 400w and 2x12 total on that rig. I'm really leaning to the MB212ii because I should have all my bases covered once I get the extension cab.

Thanks in advance!

The usual reasons for going one way or the other.

The 2x12 has a fuller, more even sound. The 210 sounds more scooped.

If you play extended range basses, the 212 has quite a bit more room before fart-out.

Yeah makes sense there- just the obvious. I use a 4-string primarily and don't always need the scooped sound but I'm assuming you could EQ a scoop if you need. - I've only had 15s or 10s so that's good info. Thanks!

Late to the party...I'm a GK fan!

Just got to use my new MB500 at practice last night. WOW. The punch and clarity and presence was unbelievable. Had the contour turned all the way down. EQ all set at 12 o'clock except bass at 1 o'clock. I play with 2 loud guitars and did not get lost once in the mix. Very impressed.
