Lower output pickups, like mine, do allow for much more input gain, but as you state, everything changes with a high output bass.
Perhaps in the future, folks could list if the bass was active vs. passive, and how hot it is relative to others.

Going back to my post (#8201) I was using active ESP/LTD F basses into a GK 700rb II with the pad on. If I leave the pad off, the amp starts to distort with input volume at about 9:00. Pad on, I can run the volume up to 12:00 and maybe 1:00.

On a separate note, does anyone know if any of their local GC's has a clearance GK NEO 112 still available? I've been giving some serious thought into buying one lately, but don't want to spend $499 new as I have spent a lot of money this year on gear. And some of the used ones that have come up have a little bit more wear than my OCD would allow, lol.

The are so many variables with the bass in addition to active vs passive that I'm not sure how much that will help with the comparisons. But it doesn't hurt.

If everyone would just measure the input rms and peak voltages then it would be apples to apples. Lol. I'm kidding here. Better yet capture the bass input and amp output signals simultaneously with their respective FFTs for each setting. Whoo that could keep an engineer busy for a while. Ha.

Let's stick with Kro's approach. It's simpler and easy to understand.

Also remember that the "volume" setting isn't tied to clip light (only the pad is as far as the amp is concerned) - that clip light is its own thing and is only tied to the raw input.

What cab(s) are you currently using?

Seems to me like an MBF800 and two CX210s would be pretty much a do-anything rig (with FOH support where appropriate), at least in my experience.

I'm running an MBF800 with a CX410/4...WOW! This is my 3.5th GK set up so far, and I must say based on some comments made recently by a long time cohort ("Now, that's what a bass is supposed to sound like!") as well as my own ears, that it's the best sounding so far!

I considered going dual CX210, but had just done dual NEO112...I wanted the one cabinet solution...the NEO410/4 is only three pounds lighter, 2x as expensive...but doesn't sound as good in my opinion...and man, I am NOT disappointed!

I don't think I've ever seen this on a MI amp before as most show clipping based on the volume pot as well

Yup, there are at least 4 stages to distort on one of those RBs: input, "volume" (unsure honestly how or if the EQ sections effects), boost, and poweramp. Lots of room for fun! But some definitely sound better than others...

Just scored a 400 RB111 off eBay which only works at normal output volume when you patch the effects and send inputs with a lead, otherwise volume is barely audible. The little I played it sounded great once we figured it will work with a patchlead, really happy with sound. Just wondering has anyone had a similar experience with their head and should I be concerned? I only ran it for a few minutes through a Fender neo 410 and as mentioned sounded great and feel the tone and volume would be perfect for tomorrow's gig set up.

Clean the effects loop input jack. When a plug is inserted, this bypasses the preamp, and with no plug it engages the pre. It's not making good contact when there is no plug. Common with any effects loop. Clean that and you'll be home free.

Is there a consensus on the best way to go about doing that? Spray a bit of Deoxit on a plug and then gently insert and remove a few times?

See pic, without a plug inserted, the signal runs through that little "dimple". kind of difficult to clean, sometimes inserting and removing a plug several times is enough to make contact again.

Spray Deoxit or other cleaner on the contact points inside the jack and insert a plug several times to open and close the contacts.

Nice! I just bought a CX410 4 ohm cab for the same reasons. Sounds great with my 700RBII.

Latest upgrade :

I got a 112-II a few month ago for gigs where the 212 would be overkill. I had never paired the two together until today at rehearsal and wow, I loved the sound and look of it !

One funny thing I noticed is that the 112-II was made in China whereas the 212-II was made in the USA, I thought all GK cabs were made in the USA but it must be an early version, I don't know. It sounds great nevertheless.

Hey guys, my MB500 has lately developed this static-y crackly noise. It doesn't matter if bass is plugged in, or even if the amp is muted, this noise is still there. No other electronics are on nearby besides having a power strip. I've even noticed that while I'm playing this noise gets louder with how loud I'm playing. Any thoughts? ideas?

Just going through what my trouble-shooting steps would be in your shoes - you may have already done them, in which case disregard, but...

Have you tried with different speaker cables? Can you affect the noise at all by turning pots? Have you tried bridging the fx loop and seeing if it improves? Have you tested on a different outlet/completely different power location?

I'm back at work now, so further steps will have to wait until tonight. My amp has been plugged into this same outlet for a year and this problem only just started happening(not saying that that means anything). When turning the pots I don't get any scratchy more or less noises, that was one of the first things I've checked. I don't currently own another Speakon Cable, but may want to look into it, and I will have to look into seeing if the FX loop has anything to do with it tonight.

Hey all, I've been saving up to get a better cab for my 400rb's. I've been looking at the cx115 and cx210. I'm not in a band anymore so it would be for home use. I play a little of everything and use a fender p bass and fender jazz bass. Right now I use two Carvin br210s that I absolutely hate. I also have a Peavey tvx 410 that I like but is way too heavy for my back. Which one of the two cx cabs would be the most versatile and better if I add a second one in the future? Can I join the club?
