I have the same MB112 + MBP112 stack.
Care to share your findings on the sound/power differences between these three rigs?
Kind of keen on the 800 Legacy as my next amp but not sure on speakers, 10 vs 12 vs 15 ?
I haven’t had the mb mbp stack long as I ordered them months ago but shipment to Australia was held up so only recently received them. I haven't tried them on a gig, I rehearsed with just the mb 112 the other day and though the tone was nice though I was not convinced that the Mb+Mbf combined would have ample power to cut most gigs. Would appreciate you sharing your experiences using this stack as was hoping these would be ample for rocking small inner city bars as well.
Can’t really comment on 10’s but when I’ve tried the neo 410 in music shops a couple of times they go deep, have always sounded great and considering maybe purchasing at some stage as well.
The MBf 500 has been reliable and served me well for the last two years, only just recently becoming faulty and in need of a good service. I mainly use this amp with 2x112s for convenience of portability, can be stacked vertically, has plenty of power and focused sound. Unfortunately I’ve blown a couple of 112’s with it over the last year but once again, great sounding and punchy cabs and can quickly get some nice growl using the master. Plugging the MBF500 into 212 and 115 together really opens up the sound, increases headroom and the timbre from the bass really shines.
I ended up getting the L800 so between both heads I’d always have a back up head and at times was wanting for a little more clean headroom. Also if I just wanted to take a single 15 or 212 cab for smaller bars felt I might get a fuller sound from a more powerful head. The Mbf500 usually sounded thin and processed to me when running @ 8 ohms but for some reason run @ 4 ohm it would come alive and sound organic so always prefer to use it this way.
I’ve only had the L800 for a few days and haven’t yet had the chance to do side by side comparison.
I used the L800 for the first time at NYE gig with a 112 and 212, didn’t really want to spend the night fiddling with knobs so set everything @12 o’clock including the overdrive section. No enhancement switches were engaged. Using an AmPro Jazz I found it sounded not as aggressive as the MBfF500 but round thick and solid with a little more headroom. So over time and as I get more of a chance to experiment with the L800 I’ll be able to make a better assessment.
At this stage not favouring one head over the other, both are great @ what they do and very pleased I have the option to choose either.
The L800 is a great head and I personally would recommend pairing with any of the neo cabs unless you play extremely loud, then go minimum the 115 or 212. Mixing 112 and 115 has always worked well but once again be mindful not to blow the 112 if you’re digging in hard and playing really loud.
Honestly I don’t think you can go wrong with either of these heads or any of the different Neo cabs. To my ears they all sound great and have served me well.
