Double Bass Gallien Krueger MB112 is Shipping

Any updates on what you think of this combo? I've been watching it very closely for a while now, hoping somebody that plays DB would do a review on it.

I use it live with my Shen 100 on "upright-only" gigs. Fishman Full Circle pickup. Strings are Innovation Super Silvers. My style is blues/swing kinda stuff.

I like a big thumpy sound and this gives it to me and then some. I like the sound - although I did order a fdeck preamp very recently to tame it a little (don't have the fdeck yet so can't report on it).

Is it the ultimate DB amp? I dunno. There are sooo many other choices out there. I originally bought it as a small-gig/practice amp. It's worked well for those purposes. My electrics (4-string P-Basses w/flatwounds) sound really good through it.

It's really lightweight and a great grab-and-go 350 watt combo (500 watts if you hook up the extension speaker).

I painted the front grille flat black (it's originally silver). Personal taste. Blends in better with the background now. lol

When doubling, I've been running both basses through a Radial Bassbone into a LMIII into a Genz Neox 212. The Bassbone allows me to EQ each bass separately.... but I admit that lately I've been gassing about the TC Electronic RH450. I've yet to try one out, but I definitely love the concept of the programmable presets and built-in tuner.

And I guess if I DID pull the trigger on the RH450, I'd probably just use THAT as my practice/DB rig with one of their 2x10 or 2x12's... but it's all speculative right now since I haven't even plugged into one.

And yeah, I realize that I've taken this way OT... so... depending on your style, budget, amp availability, it might be a good choice for you. Try one out if you can. The MB115 gets pretty good reviews here and costs less. I liked it, but preferred the 210 - especially on electric.

So far I have only used it outside the house once, and that was at a band practice using my P-Bass. It sounded terrific, but this wasn't much of a test (low volume, small room, electric bass). It will probably be a couple months before I get to use it in performance with the upright.

I just got the MB112 yesterday from a local music store for $299. I tried it out in there with a Jazz bass, but gave it a good workout at home today with a P-bass & rounds. I was able to dial in a nice variety of sounds, using the contour button and EQ. Sounded very good. My big rig is Markbass LMII & 210, but for easy transport I just had a 35W Ibanez 115 (which just could not keep up at practice). This thing will be a huge upgrade to that!! Looking forward to next band practice!

Michaeln - Any update on how this amp works for DB? I am seriously thinking of getting one, as my Ampeg BA115 is becoming a beast as far as weight and size.
