Gallien-Krueger MB2-500: Part II

Exactly. I'm playing my A03(whatever is a better #) and it works! Since I got it, I've played it in 6 services from 100-300 folks. I've gotten complements from the drummer, and even the guitarist (though the guitarist accused me of using a ghost player... lol).

99.999% of this stuff is about your taste and the ability to hear tone. I am the first to admit, I'm still working on hearing the tone, but no one is complaining and in fact many are complimenting the sound. And my A03 doesn't distort - at least not at the levels I can push it to (about 5 is max).

I've just been glancing over these threads. I just bought a used MB2 from the Classifieds and am wondering what the different versions are. Can someone provide me with a little history as to the differences....pros/cons; also how can you tell the difference in the versions?

EDIT: Nevermind....re-read from the beginning of this thread.

Here's another suggestion for Mr Gallien (aka; RAG).
Why don't you guys who are producing the mini form factor amps get together and develop a micro rack standard. It seems a waste to mount these great little amps in a big old 19" rack. Then maybe effects and tuner manufacturers could start producing like sized accessories.

Here's the thing - I'm on my third one of these amps so this isn't just me worrying about something that could theoretically happen. I love the convenience, I love the tone, it even looks great, and I have played through nothing but GK gear since I started playing. A few days into playing my first one of these and out of nowhere I get this crappy fuzzy distortion. I get a replacement (very cool). Other people have other problems crop up and they get replacements (very cool) and the fixes to those problems are described on this forum by RAG himself (very very cool). But for some reason there has been total silence (until Brian's post that I responded to) about what the deal with the distortion problem is and if there is some fix. I understand that new products have teething pains -- I think GK has done a great job responding so fast to stuff that people encountered. (Maybe even too fast -- I'm not sure modifying the EQ was worth the bother.)

All I'm saying is, I'd like to have some level of confidence that my amp isn't going to flake out half way through a set. And all it would take is a quick update from GK on this board, just like they have done about all the other stuff. Right or wrong, it felt to me like the silence meant that GK hadn't yet fixed the problem and that I couldn't really depend on the amp. And now, I'll never mention it again. Sheesh.

It truly pains me to say this, but I just experienced my first issue with distortion over the weekend... it sounded so bad some of my band mates thought that I might have torn a speaker... after some testing with other amps/cabs, it was determined that the amp was the source.

Looks like I"ll be sending it back for my third version (I had RF issues with the first - fixed completely with the second). I'm not quite so frustrated to give up on the model yet but I'm getting there. It'd be really good to know that the source of this issue was isolated and definitively fixed...

So far all of the information on this particular issue has been really vague. Brian/Rag, can either of you give me some assurance that when I receive the replacement the same issue won't crop up in another 4 months?

Damn that sucks. Which revision did you have ? I had the distortion too and mine was A00. I now have A05 and no problems so far.
Maybe we can keep track on here which rev are having problems and which are not.

The amp in question is actually an elusive A04 that was shipped to me mid November as a replacement from an A00.

Edit: What did your distortion sound like? The best way to describe mine, was that it sounded like a reed instrument (sax or clarinet) with a bad reed - very distorted in a wispy sort of way. Is this what everybody else is experiencing as well?

Very interesting, mine was also an A03 mislabeled as an A04.

I'm not really sure exactly when it started, but I was in the middle of a 3 hour rehearsal - by the last hour I was so frustrated with my sound that it was seriously effecting my playing - that distortion is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Glad to hear that your 05 is working great, but like you my 04 worked great for 5 months before this hit as well. I could use some serious assurance that this has actually been addressed in the next revision - and that I won't just be sent an alternate with GK simply crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.

I like the Jersey theory though - I'll make sure to keep that in mind. ;)

I think the people down playing these issues or discouraging discussion about them need to consider that these issues will become much more serious to players when the warranty on their amp expires. No one wants to have continual problems on an amp or piece of electronics out of warranty.
