Any suggestions or views on what adding a GK 100RB II to an Ampeg 610HLF would be like?
I heard the the tweeter horn control thing doesnt work on Non GK cabs.
Great head, and one of Ampeg's best cabs - they pair up quite nicely... I can't imagine that you wouldn't love such a setup...

I have a GK700RBII running a GK NEO 112 and an Avatar B210 NEO. Sounds great! Just the right mix of vintage and modern tone with plenty of headroom. However, I've only played with sufficient PA support. Haven't had to rely on the full power of this rig to carry the gig.
In the past I've run an Ampeg SVT410HLF or PR410HLF with that head. Not together obviously as they're both 4ohm cabs and the head is max load is 4ohms. Both cabs sounded great and had enough volume to have our drummer crying for me to turn down!
I don't know what it is but there's something about the GK head + Ampeg cab thing, at least for me. I'm happy with my current rig (plus my back can't take those 410's anymore) but either of those Ampeg cabs really worked out well for me in both power and tone!

I've been running a 1001RB II into a new Goliath III for a few months. I've had the GK for two years - the Goliath is a recent addition. I love the head, but after a few months I'm starting to think these two fellas don't play together as well as I had hoped.

I just sold my SVT4pro and SVT-CL. Why? I have two GK 800rb's, which sound WAY better to me (and seem to be louder, despite the power ratings on the ampegs). so I say GK all the way- the 1001rb is great. 2001rb is just awesome, but probably more than anyone not playing arenas needs.

I've had my GK1001RBII + 2 SBX 4x10s for two years now, great rig! I've come close to turning it up half way......it can be insanely loud. Best $$$ I've ever spent!
Not one of the above, but maybe consider a Carvin B1500. Plenty of power and tone, you will be heard!
I suggest you try them both before you do anything.
I have a Ampeg B2re also, and while I too struggle with the volume.. I love the tone..
I read all the fuss about these GK heads so I went to GC to try them out and I just don't see what the big deal is.. I mean, yeah, they are ridiculously loud in terms of their watts compared to Ampeg watts, but I just don't like how clean they are. They don't have the "Ampeg Tone" or that grunt sound that I like.
Maybe I didn't EQ them right.. but I like the SVT heads better. Only problem is that its like 1200 dollars for an Ampeg head that competes with any GK head in volume..

i hate to do this but im in the same situation. only im using a peavey megabass head and am looking to go gk or b2re. low fund situation, fams first. but i like a mike starr or jesse vest tone. uh. help me too
i am also facing an ampeg vs. gk situation. i can buy a used 2000rb or wait for an ampeg to come along. i love the svt tone, but this crazy volume/headroom capability of the 2000, its versatility and reliability (if it has two fans!) is alluring.
i really just need to fill as much space in the low end as possible. i play with drums/drum machine and a clanky clean guitar. big thick simple low end with more power than i could ever need is what im looking for.

I've tried a 2001rb through an Ampeg fridge, it was an unholy union (unholy in a good way)
Atm using a 1001rbII through a mesa 410 - a punchy combination, cab has a lot of mids present so I often have to adjust to it depending on the room but good nevertheless.
In the future want to get either a Mesa 610 or an Ampeg cab - don't know which one though. GK cabs are expensive here so I haven't really given them much thought but would it I could afford them.

I finally ordered the GK 1001RB II and an Ampeg 610HLF!! Hopefully mixing the two will give me what i want.
