Gallien Krueger or Ampeg!!

Im in a 3 piece band that plays music kinda simular to early chili peppers stuff (Mothers milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magik), but im struggling to compete with my guitarists Marshall mode 4. (Very full Amp!!)

At the moment Im running an Ampeg B2-RE Head through an 8 ohm Harkte VX410a cab but im constantly running my amp hot and losing clarity on stage as its on max. (only getting 250w@ 8 ohms i think).

Im thinking of upgrading my cab to an Ampeg 610HLF but some people have suggested to Upgrade my head too.

Ampeg's SVT-6 pro and Gallien Kruegers 1001RB II, 2001RB have caught my eye as great amps 4 my style but...

Whats better Ampeg or Gallien Krueger?

Flea was known to play a GK800RB through an Ampeg 8x10 during the early days of RHCP.

I play through the GK 1001RB-II and a 410RBX, and I love them to death. I plan on getting another 410RBX soon to add to it stack. Go with the Gallien-Krueger, it's much better.

Gallien-Krueger every time, the 1001RBII is immensely good, I've never been a fan of Ampeg

Any suggestions or views on what adding a GK 100RB II to an Ampeg 610HLF would be like?

I heard the the tweeter horn control thing doesnt work on Non GK cabs.

I see no reason why you couldn't get a great sound from that combination. Not sure about the tweeter situation though.

Well, if you are looking for the RHCP sound, you are probably better of with a GK since Flea actually uses one.

I use a GK 1001rbII and love it. A full 750 watts. I've always felt Ampeg's wattage rating was a little suspect. As far as the bi-amp feature on the GK I don't think you would miss it that much. It's nice but not critical to getting a killer sound.

Both are "better" in different ways. For the Chili peppers stuff id say go with GK. I run an 700brII with GKs 410rbx and I will never have a problem being heard in my 4 piece band. Now thats only running half of the amps power (id need another cab to run its full load) but anyway the 700rbII will be loud enough for most situations. The 1001 will DEFINATELY do the trick. They all are very loud when they need to be. I would suggest you drop the speakers you got and get either the GK RBX series or that 610 from Ampeg. The GK heads sound good through both of em. Check out RMCaudio.com for GK gear. They sell it the cheapest and their customer service is on point.

i just dumped an SVT4Pro that i had been running for a few years, & replaced it with a GK 1001RBII

My situation was very close to yours...I used an Ampeg B2 combo + Ampeg 4x10, planning to get a SVT3pro or SVT4pro.
Finally got a good deal and bought a GK1001RBII+GK SBX810. Did a great change for the sound I like (yes, flealish). The GK1001 is a really great non-tube head.

The only thing that puts me of slightly with GK is that quite a few people have told my that they're not very reliable and break down quite a lot.

Don't know where you heard that... GKs are extremely reliable and are workhorses. There were some issues with earlier models of GKs but if you buy a 1001-RBII or a 700RB-II you won't have any problems.

I use an GK1001RB-II+Ampeg SVT-610HLF and this set up kills! Very punchy and power to spare. Not to hifi, just a good, loud, reliable en flexible set up...
Never miss the GK bi-amp feature. However I've no experience with GK cabs, I heard the NEO's are very nice...

Im so tempted for that combination but just wanna make sure there both reliable and work well together.

The SVT6 is an awesome amp but is pretty heavy and fans are .... noticeable.

I also use a G-K 1001RB-II with a 410RBX and plan to get a 2nd 410RBX. Both the amp and the cab are workhorses which have served me well. The biamp feature does only work with G-K cabs, but I've heard G-K heads sound great with other cabs so don't let that concern you too much. The only time I've really noticed it is if I do the Victor Wooten version of "Amazing Grace" on harmonics as a lead-in to "Grace Like Rain" with the praise team - the harmonics just ring beautifully imho with the biamp setup.
