Gallien Krueger SBX cabinet series quality.

Next week i am buying some new GK cabs, my Ampeg SVT-810E is sold and i need something new. I am either going to but a GK 410SBX and a GK 115SBX OR a GK 810SBX. I keep seeing that the 410 and the 115 of this line either have or had quality problems (failing speakers, handle and caster breaks). How true is this, does the 810SBX have similar problems.

I've read here that there have been three versions of the sbx line: 1) the first of the "I" series where there were some faulty drivers and handles; 2) the rest of the "I"series that were fine - I owned 2 of the 4x10s and they sounded great and had no issues; and 3) the "II" series that can handle twice the wattage.

You should be fine with either 2) or 3). My 4x10s had a clear punchy tone that was great for funk. If I did it again I'd get a 4x10 and a 1x15 as the two 4x10s didn't have quite enough low end for me.

I had one of the series I SBX 4x10s that had the speakers that failed. GK sent me a whole new set at no cost which was cool, but I never really liked the tone the cab had. It couldn't punch through at all. I ended up buying an 810E have been much happier since. Hope you don't end up missing it...

We have not been experiencing failures in the SBX series. You can buy with confidence.

Tonally what are you looking for? SBX tend to be more of a fat and warm tone. If you want punchy and agressive then the RBH would be a better choice or if you want punchy and smooth the Neo series would be a better choice.

If you've played them in the store and like them then by all means go for it.

I'm looking for an 810 with a bit more glassy top end. I diddnt sell the 810e, i figured i'd keep it at least for recording purposes. I may not get the GK cab and just buy a backup GK head. I like the combo of the 800RB and the 810e.
