I can agree with that, at least a little bit. I think that what happened over time was that developers saw more money in multiplayer and competitive games and started building that way.

If it helps, I still play the original doom, in part because there are a million mods for it, and just finished Wolfenstein 3d a couple months ago. Also, RTS games are sort of coming back. They've remastered age of empires, command and conquer, red alert and Warcraft ii. Nothing wrong with enjoying older titles.

DCS World and Star Citizen. DCS World will keep you busy for many years and has a very long learning curve that's very intense if you don't know anything about flying aircraft. Its not for beginners. Star Citizen can keep you busy for the rest of your life and incorporates every method of gaming you can imagine. Both will require you to buy a very powerful computer and peripherals that can get pretty expensive.

A buddy picked up a Donkey Kong III arcade game from an abandoned storage unit along with the cocktail version of Joust. He said they work just fine. I haven't had a chance to go over yet and check it out.

I just saw a Gameboy style copy with a color screen on Amazon for like $20 with hundreds of school games built in. Seems like it would be right up your alley.

Naw. I'm not a fan of the handheld consoles. I like the classic arcade games from the 80's that I played with my buddies all the time after school when we finished our paper routes.
MAME is sweet since I can play the exact same game on my computer without having to buy a warehouse to store a few hundred game cabinets.

Since I'm going through chemo right now and my usual outlets are a bit (historically) risky for me (motorcycles, mountain bikes plus, y'know, pandemic), I got myself a PS4 and hang out in the basement gaming. Playing PGA2K21, Gran Turismo Sport and COD. In COD mostly Warzone with a couple of buddies. Still learning the ropes so getting killed a lot. Makes for a slightly less long boring summer.

Never was much of gamer. Maybe back on my old roommate's Atari 30 years ago and some MarioKart, but that's it. Having fun with it.

I love racing games. I usually play Dirt 2.0, which is a rally car game. Challenging but fun. More of a solo affair than having other guys in the track with you.

Do you have a wheel? Or use the controller? I'd love to get a full curve monitor with the pedals and the racing wheel one day.

Just using a controller right now. Considering getting a wheel and pedal setup if and when I get the competitive bug. With GT, you need to pay money to compete with others. I'm just playing against AI drivers right now - and rally cars/tracks are my favourite!!! Gotta check out Dirt 2.0. I also like taking fast cars around the Nurburgring.

Newer title - Outer Worlds. I'm a sucker for RPG's and good story telling. This gives that and more.

Older titles - Master of Orion 2. The king of 4x space games. Period. All time favorite game for me.
Recently I jumped back down the rabbit hole that is EverQuest. The graphics are a joke now, but at the end of the day it remains the only MMO that didn't hold your hand, make excuses for being hard or compromise in any way. Until Planes of Power :p Then it pandered to all the whiners that liked WoW's Nancy ways. It's been fun revisiting all the most memorable online gaming experiences with a fresh Human Monk ( Not so fresh.. I made level 70 which is max level on the progression server I play on. )


I've been mightily tempted to get Forza 4 but have read too many reviews that it's poorly ported to the PC.

Firmly on my radar for the future are PULSAR: Lost Colony. Sir Whoopass - Action RPG and Mech Hunter.

The fiancé and I finally played through and beat Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. It's surprisingly difficult earlier on and then mellows out into a fun and sometimes interesting platformer. That said, we probably beat it in about 10 hours. It's not too long or deep.
