Gap under replacement nut

I removed the stock nut from my Squier Affinity P and replaced it with a Graph Tech nut. The original nut has a flat bottom, and the new one also does. When I place the new nut in the slot, there is a small gap on either end between the bottom of the nut and the nut slot. Same goes for the old nut, but to a lesser degree. I don't think the old nut had the gap before I removed it. Could the nut slot be the problem? I believe I've removed all of the glue from the slot, and I've already fitted the new nut thickness wise and lengthwise.

Most likely there is still glue in the corners at the bottom of the middle of the slot. Doesn't take much at all to keep the top nut from fully seating. The best tool I've found for removing old glue in this area is a single edge razor blade. Run it down the face of each side slot and rock it back and fourth at the bottom using moderate pressure. You should see small chips come loose. When it quits rocking you've probably got it all.
