The great HOF catcher for the Expos and Mets died this evening at 57 after a long fight with cancer. I was not a huge Carter fan, but this is a bummer. He was not that old, and I was hoping he would have more time.

When our local AAA team was affiliated with The Mets...I was a huge fan.
Loved it when Carter became a Met.
He always played hard. A fan cannot never ask for much more than that.
That said, IF the Expos were able to keep all those great players...they woulda dominated the NL East for about 10 years(?).

I used to hate him when he beat up the Phillies really badly in the 80's but this is sad news. Age 57 is way too young to die. I'm 59 so I know.
Me too. What a bummer. I remember him so well from my youth. That batting stance was great.

I was a huge Expos fan, and Gary Carter was one of my first baseball heroes - I had a Carter jersey and everything. So sad to see him go far, far too soon. My thoughts are with his family.

What's kinda weird is that I was just thinking of his cameo in the Pringles' Butter and Herbs commercials, like, two days ago.
So sad to hear of Gary Carter's passing. For a time in the late 70s and early 80s he was as popular in Montreal as Guy Lafleur was. Guess I'll be wearing my old Expos cap as well.
