Hm. A couple of you hit on the key here: you've got a set-up that you're happy with. As for me, I'm not happy with my set-up at all, and am hoping to fix that. Some of my stuff dates from when I was ****-eating poor, so my rig is an ancient EMC 2X15 with a cracked cone and a crusty amp. Sounds cruddy, but it's okay for practising with.

Which is why I want the 210 XLT and the SVTpro 3.

My main bass used to be the Washburn AB-20 that I'm about to Craigslist. I worked and saved, then designed the music store a set of business cards and pricetags for half the price of the bass.

And I have a silly Vantage unlined fretless (which is already up on Craigslist, and wil hopefully leave soon) because I've always liked the sound of a fretless. It never gets used, hence the Craigslisting.

I guess the Washburn was my first 'real' bass, but I really see my A5 as the first medium-end bass I've bought. I like it a lot more than the Wash. That, plus the 55-02 that's on its way, is starting to give me a stable that I'll actually appreciate.

I want the Sadowsky magic, too, but the next thing to upgrade will be the amp and cab.

I think what changed was the fact that I got into a band that actually gigged, and didn't implode after a year. You know -- a post-student-life band. I'm taking music more seriously now than I ever have. I'm actually practising and doing [shudder] scales and modes.

And I feel like I deserve stuff that excites me, rather than buying the model below the one I want all the time.

Believe me: as a freelance writer, I can afford new gear once every dog's age, btu I still think I can make it count.

And there you have it: the source of my GAS.

In the last year I have bought 2 Les Paul Guitars, a Taylor Acoustic 6 string, 5 basses, a Carvin 600W combo, a full Ampeg rig, a Bass POD, a Boss Micro DR recorder, various stomp boxes and drums and 2 guitar amps (Fender and Marshall) for my kids.

I am Gass-ed out!

Although the EBMM Bongo 6 string is coming out later this year....
