I thought I had all I needed with my Corvette $$ I've had for over 10 years. I caved in and added a fretless 87 Jazz Bass Special this summer and it has been my main axe since then while the Warwick keeps shining in the studio. I thought I was set but then... Ran into this early 2000s fiesta red jazz bass. I am friends with the store manager and commented how much I liked it... He put it on layaway for me immediately so... I'm paying on that one. About a month ago, I'm at another store working (I'm a rep in the industry) and ran into a seafoam green MIM deluxe p bass special. I had seen it in that store before and commented how I would consider buying it if it is still there next time I visit. Later that day I get an email saying it is set aside with my name... I guess I'm getting two basses next year... I'll keep my mouth shut from now on.
GAS is a fickle mistress, isn't she? I suppose I've learned over the years and very cautiously only buy/keep whatever earns me money. Every bass needs a purpose and needs to be adaptable to various situations. Yes, I'd still like that perfect Jazz and that perfect Precision, be it a Fender, a Lull or a D.Lakin, but in truth I don't need them. My Sabre set to single coil is a P-Bass killer and my Enfield can switch it's coils horizontally and vertically, so I can create any combination of single/split/himbuckers at the flick of a switch. Again, the Jazz or Precision sound here is very authentic. So maybe I need a fretless, but it has to be a stellar one that I'll keep. Bass Direct is calling my name, though... The D.Lakin basses are in stock. Oh, and I need to take the Enfield to its maker for a few adjustments... Enfield Fretless, perhaps? Aaarrrggghhh! And Rob Green at Status (who's been making my basses for 25 years) has released the Series 3. Heeelllppp!
So I cancel the layaway on the MIA cause I realized it would be just out of lust. Getting the PBass in a couple of weeks when I'm in the area (the store is about 3hrs away)
